With the increase in domestic vehicle ownership and continued policy support, domestic ETC usage rates have risen significantly in recent years. Ministry of Transport data shows that as of December 31, 2019, national ETC users exceeded 200 million, the national highway toll system was upgraded, and the goal of eliminating provincial toll stations was basically achieved.
Currently, vehicle models requiring optional ETC installation include: passenger cars, trucks, buses, and special-purpose vehicles. Three-wheelers, city buses, and other vehicles that cannot use highways and are only used within cities do not need additional equipment. In addition, the policy sets a six-month transition period from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. During the transition period, the ETC on-board device optionally installed in vehicle products may use either direct or indirect power supply, and shall be recorded in the "Announcement" parameters. From January 1, 2021, new vehicle models applying for product access shall optionally install ETC on-board devices using direct power supply.
ETC pre-installation means embedding the OBU module into the T-BOX terminal built-in system during production, sharing chips and components, and integrating into a pre-installed unified smart T-BOX. In other words, the new car received by the user will come with ETC as “standard equipment”.
